Friends across a life span
I have recently attended a birthday party for the 3-year-old daughter of my friend, John, whom I've known since I was a baby. My father has been one of his father's closest friends since university.
John has had a huge influence on my life. John and I have supported each other through thick and thin. As a child, I moved at ages 5, 8 and 11. Regular online contacts on the Internet helped us to keep in touch, feel close and share problems or moments of joys. Staying connected online provided us the ground for a long-lasting friendship. At the moment we are living in the same town and I hang out and have fun with him very often. We have never had rows and we never get bored.
I think that a close friend can provide comfort and joy and can help you see problems under a different light. Early-childhood friendship is something that is frequently considered as a positive developmental influence while many important changes are taking place. I agree with people who think that being a friend is a great honour and responsibility as it can give you vital life skills and help shape who you are.
