Lesson 6: Grammar review: the - ing form
Decide whether the following statements are true (V) or false (F).
A: 1. The -ing ending for English verbs is used to show the progressive aspect (i.e. progressive or continuous verb tenses) of an action.
B: 2. The -ing ending for English verbs is used for gerunds, that are verbs used as adjectives or adverbs.
C: 3. The -ing ending for English verbs is used in participles, commonly used as as adjectives that modify nouns.
D: 4. The -ing ending for English verbs is used after the verb "to go" in many expressions, showing leisure-time activities.
E: 5. When "to" is part of a phrasal verb or when "to" is used as a preposition, it is followed by a base form.
F: 6. If phrases with participles are at the beginning of a sentence, they should modify the first noun or pronoun in the sentence.
G: 7. Both -ing forms and past participles can be used as adjectives, acquiring the same meanings.
H: 8. The combination "go + -ing form" is used for all leisure-time activities.
