The bitcoin
Read the article and complete the sentences below with the correct alternative.

The bitcoin is an alternative type of payment system that first appeared in 2009. It's a form of
electronic cash or digital money. You can buy bitcoins and exchange them for currencies, products
or services on a peer-to-peer network, but you can't keep them in a bank account like regular
money. People spend their bitcoins through a system called the blockchain. A transaction involves
both a public key, which is generally known to everyone, and a private one, which only the bitcoin
user has. To use your bitcoins, you first have to buy them, either in person or through an
exchange. You then need to move them into a safe location you can control, like a software wallet
on your computer or on an online one. The advantages are that users can make fast international
payments with lower costs, but bitcoin has also been criticised for its use in illegal money transfers
or transactions. Another problem is that if you lose your private key, you also lose all your coins. In
2013, one user claimed that he lost millions of dollars' worth of bitcoins this way and is now
penniless.

The bitcoin first appeared about ________ years ago.
You need a ________ to use them.
You can only use your coins if you have a ________.
You can save money on your ________.
You have to look after your ________ very carefully.
