Reading: News sources
In the past, people got their news mostly from the radio, TV, newspapers and magazines. You followed your favourite or trusted media sources to get informed. People read or listened to the headlines and could also learn about current affairs. The first experiment of an online newspaper was created in Illinois in 1980 and the Times went online in 1996. At the time, people said that it was very exciting. Things have changed a lot since then. Nowadays, most people use their digital devices to get informed about the latest news and find out what's happening in the world, often in real time. The most important news websites and sources include The New York Times, The BBC and the CNN, and Al Jazeera. There are many prizes given to the best journalists and reporters, for example the Pulitzer Prize in the United States. Even citizen journalists can have a role in spreading the news. These people are not professionals but spread information using social media, websites, and blogs.
