Reading: Town vs country
From city to town
If you've moved from the city to a small town, the first thing you notice is that everyone knows each other. People stop to chat in the streets and in shops. Generally, we've been slowing down and enjoying a more relaxed pace of life. It's not always easy if you used to live in a busy place. There's a strong sense of community here and we've made friends with our neighbours. Public transport is not great, so getting around is more difficult, but car parking is easier. We've started a local business and it's going well, and my son has been looking for work. He may commute when he finds a job. My daughter has been studying abroad for the last two years but enjoys the peace and quiet when she visits. Shops and businesses often close earlier and on Sundays, and we've been going to the nearest city for the cinema and theatre. I've missed the hustle and bustle sometimes, but we've loved being in nature, walking and discovering the plants and animals.
A: People don't usually know each other in small towns.
B: It's been quite easy for the writer to adapt to the slower way of life.
C: They've found that transport in the town is good.
D: The son has started to work abroad.
E: Shops don't stay open all weekend.
F: The speaker has been enjoying the hustle and bustle.
