Reading: Alternative energy sources
Renewable technologies use natural energy to make electricity. These sources include wind, wave, hydro and solar power. The UK is the world's sixth largest producer of wind power and about 80% of the population agree with its use, even people who live close to the turbines. Wind power is the second largest source of renewable energy in the electricity sector after hydropower, also called water power. Biomass is also popular, and this is renewable organic material that comes from plants and animals. Geothermal power, which comes from the heat of the Earth, is not considered a viable option for the moment, partly because it is difficult to access. Altogether, renewables currently produce more than 45% of the UK's electricity, which should rise as we reduce carbon emissions. Energy companies are also committed to making the UK more sustainable and want to reduce their environmental impact. The Government is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 68% by 2030.

2 The objects which create wind power: ________
