Friends for life
I recently attended a birthday party for the 2-year-old son of my friend, Gabriel, who I've known since I was a baby. My father's been close friends with his father since they were at university together.
Gabriel has had a huge influence on my life and we've supported each other through thick and thin. As a child, I moved home several times but we always kept in touch and social media helped us to feel close and discuss our problems or share happy moments. This online connection provided the basis for a long-lasting friendship. Over the last five years, we've been living in the same town and we often hang out together. We have common interests, so we never get bored, and we never argue.
Having a close friend can provide comfort and joy and help you see problems in a different light. The friendships we make as youngsters are often considered a positive developmental influence and can improve our self-esteem. I agree with people who think that being a friend is a great honour and responsibility as it can give you vital life skills and help shape who you are.
A: Gabriel's birthday party was celebrated together with his daughter's.
B: The writer's family did not know Gabriel's family.
C: The writer has frequently changed her place of residence during her childhood.
D: It was difficult for the two friends to keep in touch.
E: They spend a lot of time together now.
F: Online early-childhood friendship is vital when important developmental changes are taking place.
