Midnight's Children: plot and setting

Adam Aziz, Saleem's grandfather, is a doctor from Bangladesh. He medically treats Naseem, his future wife, who for the first three years of the treatment is covered by a sheet with a hole moved to show the part that is sick. They move to Karachi, where Adam becomes a follower of an anti-partition activist, Mian Abdullah. When Abdullah is assassinated, Adam hides the man's son, Nadir Khan, who secretly marries his daughter Mumtaz. Later Nadir abandons Mumtaz, who then marries a young intellectual, Ahmed Sinai, and changes her name to Amina. After they move to Delhi, she gets pregnant and goes to a fortune-teller who tells her that her son will never be older or younger than his country. The family moves to Bombay after a terrorist act and buy a house from an Australian, William Methwold.
