Contacless payment cards
Contactless payment cards and other mobile devices include a microchip and antenna that communicate wirelessly with nearby payment terminals, using near field communication technology. A key advantage of a contactless payment method is that it allows users to pay without having to use a personal identification number (PIN) or signature for payment. They are typically processed through the same payment networks used for other card transactions.
Contactless payments, which were designed to make payments easier and faster, became very popular as a payment method in many countries in the world. Contactless payments are often known as 'tap to pay' or 'tap and go' because they allow users to make payments by simply tapping a card or mobile device on a payment terminal, therefore no typing or signing is necessary to authorize a money transaction.
'Contactless payments are becoming the new normal,' according to the 2017 World Payments Report owing to the fact that a growing number of shops now accept contactless payment methods. Therefore hundreds of millions of contactless cards have been issued to consumers.
Consequently payments made through the apps in smartphone mobiles are growing in popularity.
