Reading: Technology and apps
Young app developers
For people interested in developing apps, the best advice is to focus on an app that solves a problem or fills a need. Find an area that you are passionate about and focus on developing a quality app for that niche. This is exactly what Thomas Suarez, a 12-year-old self-taught iPhone software developer, did. His interest in computers began when he was four years old when he enjoyed watching his father work on coding projects. By the time he was 6, he was playing around with the software on his father's laptop. He soon began to teach himself how to code and produced his first app when he was 7. Suarez's apps have been downloaded millions of times, and he has even given TED presentations about his work.
Another example of young app developer is Zora Ball, who is the youngest individual to design a full-version mobile gaming app. Zora was motivated to become an app developer after watching her elder brother, who is also an app developer, work on his own projects. She learned to code in the Bootstrap programming language at her school's after-school learning program and presented a game she had designed at the University of Pennsylvania's Bootstrap Expo. She says she was also inspired by Jane Goodall's conservation work and wants to build apps that help people to learn about and conserve the environment.
