Reading: Unusual jobs
Island paradise
One of the most unusual jobs in the world is an island caretaker. You are usually required to look after a private island and will have several responsibilities: for example, you will be in charge of maintaining ground and buildings and prepare for the arrival of the island's owner. It is certainly an unusual way to make a living, but the job can provide enormous job satisfaction and you will have no personal expenses to worry about.
The skills required for this job include electrical, plumbing and gardening expertise. You may need to prepare for storms, and have first aid training in case of medical emergencies. You will be working outdoors a lot of the time and are often offered only basic accommodation. You may not actually be earning a very high salary, but the job would suit reserved and independent people who love nature and are fascinated by the idea of living independently. You will certainly have a lot of free time to explore the territory and do outside sports like swimming and diving when the owners are away. It may sound like paradise for some, or a prison for others, as you make do with local wildlife for company.
A: You will need practical skills.
B: You need to bring some savings with you.
C: Your living quarters should be very comfortable.
D: The job will attract sociable people as you meet many visitors.
E: Being fit would make the job more enjoyable.
