King Richard and King John
Richard I remained in the country for less than a year because he left for the Great Land to fight in the Third Crusade. After his death, his son John became king and, to protect his possessions in England, John imposed such high taxes and abused his power so much that a rebellion was organised by the barons. They invited the king to sign a document called Magna Charter, in which specific liberties were demanded. The king signed it in 1212.
