The first robots - verbs
The word robot were coined by the Czech novelist Karel Capek in 1920 (robot in Czech meanint worker or servant)  and in 1954 the first programmable robot was designed by George Devol (1912-2011), an American inventor.
Although the word 'robot' was only first use in the 20th century, the notion of robots and robot-like machines dated back to ancient times.
For example, as early as  270 BC an ancient Greek engineer, Ctesibius, makes figures and fountains move with hydraulics and pneumatic pressure.
