Rock climbing made easy
One good reason for climbing is the fantastic views you get, especially from the top. However, these can be difficult to appreciate if you're concentrated on not losing your footing or afraid of heights. One way to overcome these problems is by taking a via ferrata, which is a series of rungs bolted into the rock on one side, and cables to hold on to on the other. The rungs make it easier but at the same time a thrilling experience. These routes are very popular all over Europe but originated in Italy. They were first used to move soldiers through the mountains during WW1. Later, hikers started using them to cope with going uphill on steep terrain. Many resorts now offer this type of adventure, and you will usually be given protective equipment, which may include a helmet and perhaps a harness and cord with snap rings on it to clip onto the cables.  You still get the adrenaline of mountaineering but with the reassurance of the safety equipment and it is suitable for any age and level of fitness. New routes will often be designed by mountain guides who have a good knowledge of the local area.
A: People may not enjoy climbing if they are scared.
B: An old system makes climbing simpler.
C: This system consists of a series of footings.
D: They were first used by walkers and mountaineers.
E: Climbers must use special hats.
F: Anybody can do this activity.
